Day’s 29, 30, 31 Irony and Association…

This is a two-part post.  The first part is simply to note how ironic it is that I’ve not put up a quality blog post in several days.  While the project was to give 100% and blog for 365 days… I haven’t been blogging. :/  The irony comes because of why I haven’t been blogging.  Firstly I was away… but when I got back, I had so much clarity on what I wanted to do, that I’ve been up at 4:55 every morning and to the gym.  Let me tell you, it’s very strange getting home from the gym before I used to even get up.  The craziest thing is… It’s taken no effort at all to do it.  There’s no argument from my mind.  No, “Man let me sleep in just five more minutes.”  I just get up and go.

 

This brings me to the association.  One core concept I’ve long known, but was covered again in the conference I went to was the associations we have to certain activities.  There are a myriad of associated emotions to each activity we perform from boredom to joy to hatred to pain to pleasure.  Think of anything you do on a consistent basis and you will find that, at a base level, doing it either gives you pleasure or helps you avoid pain. 

 

So, when I consider the fact that I’m getting up and getting to the gym by 5AM with little effort, when before I have never been able to do so consistently, one has to wonder what changed.  When I look at what I associate to waking up on time, it used to be raw pain.  So much tiredness.  Cold.  Very little good.  I have a lot of great associations to exercise and the gym, but getting up… nope.  So what changed? 

 

Honestly… I’m still trying to figure that out.  I’m listening to an audiobook right now called Extreme Ownership by two Navy SEALs, one of which mentions that he’s up at 4:30 every morning.  He started doing that while he was a SEAL because he noticed the most productive and successful SEALs always got up before everyone else.  I’ve been wanting to have more time in my day and have a consistent time at the gym to build a solid habit to best support my health (which is really good right now thankfully).   But I’m still trying to figure out why I’m so motivated to go.

 

I THINK it has something to do with a visualization we did at the conference… If so, it’s the most successful motivation technique I’ve ever used because it produced an immediate impact.  I’ll keep an eye on things and report back sooner than later…

 

As far as the visualization technique we used… it was crazy intense… perhaps I’ll share it tomorrow…
