Serialized fiction with a twist...
The serialized Burning Sky is underway! This is a cooperative project with those on my e-mailing list. I write a scene and send it off with a question on what will happen next. The path the novel takes will be purely democratic. Where the votes take me, I will write. In this way neither I nor you will know where this story is ultimately headed. Join my e-mailing list if you would like to be a part of this project.
Why serialized fiction? I wanted to be a better writer. As I read Daniel Coyle's The Talent Code, I realized I wasn't putting enough pressure on myself to create compelling fiction. Writers like George R.R. Martin cut their teeth in television. There's a high pressure writing scenario! But I wasn't about to move to Hollywood. Then an idea came to me. If I created a monthly serial, I would have to write quickly and well. I consider those on my emailing list friends, and I have loved their input in the past. As I prepared the first chapter, I realized I wanted their feedback. So I put a question at the end for them to vote on. Does the border agent let him through? The resulting impact on my writing and connection to my closest readers has been far more than I ever thought possible. My readers' responses have become so much more than a vote. I've learned, for example, that Iskra, the old Russian woman, who I'd intended to be a throw away character, really intrigued readers. I've developed more as a writer from this project than any other work I've done and have enjoyed it far more than I could have imagined.
Thanks to all who have and will take part!
P.S. If you want to join in. Dooo Eeet. :) ---> Right over there.
